Producer Profile

This month we are featuring Red Tail Wines, a boutique winery at Marlee.

Sue and Warren Stiff have been producing wine here for about 15 years. Merlot, Barbera, Semillon, Verdelho and Colombard wine varieties are produced from grapes grown on the property. Because these wines are not mixed with any from other wineries, the flavour of the wine will vary from year to year, depending on the weather that season.

Preserving the local flavours is something Warren and Sue are passionate about, reflecting their down to earth philosophy. Several other varieties are also on offer which are mixes with wines from other vineyards, also local.

Come and taste some of this high quality boutique wine at the Wingham Farmers’ Market this Saturday. Find them inside with Sue’s handmade jewellery on display. Cellar door sales are also available.

Specially for the school holidays, Lisa Richards from Sew Magical will have something for the kids. Amongst Lisa’s many talents are face painting and balloon modelling with a touch of magic.

At 10 am Tristan from Hand ‘n’ Hoe Macadamias will give a talk on the family business, growing certified organic macadamias on the Comboyne Plateau just north of Wingham. Hand ‘n’ Hoe are growing in popularity in Sydney and elsewhere because of their high quality products. Tristan can also enlighten you on all the ways to use their luscious macadamia oil!

The ‘community stall’ is on hand again to sell your excess produce. If your garden is growing more than your family can eat, why not bring it to the community stall to sell on your behalf? Please make sure it’s chemical spray free, and less than 15 kg.

August 2012 market

This Saturday come down to the Wingham Showground between 8am and 12 noon and see what the Wingham Farmers Market has to offer.   Whether you are looking for fresh local produce, some soup to warm your tummy, catch up with friends, be entertained by Jessica Martin or talk to local producers there is always a great range to do, see and buy at the Wingham Farmers Market.

This month features Dawn Stone in the Producer Profile.  Dawn and her range of homemade cakes (including diabetic and gluten free), pickles, lemon butter, fruit butter and relishes are located in the undercover pavilion at the Wingham Farmers Market.  Not only is Dawn a long standing stallholder of 23 years, her family has lived in the area for seven generations.  Dawn is well known for her cakes, particularly sponges and Christmas cakes and puddings.  Talk with Dawn about placing your Christmas order.

 At 10am Bill Archinal will talk about his grass fed beef enterprise.  Bill and his wife Alison finish cattle for private kill and then package the meat through the butcher for direct sale.  Bill and Alison manage their property Holistically and breed Shorthorn with Angus cross for their beef enterprise.  Bill attends the markets throughout the year selling Archinal potatoes and pumpkins when in season.  Come along to the Community Stall at 10am to hear Bill and sample some Archinal sausages.

If you have home grown surplus produce, bring it to the market’s community stall to sell for you! Fresh produce less than 15 kg will be accepted, dropped off either at the market by 8 am or by prior arrangement through the Manning Landcare office.
